Seeing portfolio problems while they are still small

We identify where AI removes cost and where it quietly adds risk.

Every engagement begins with a scoping conversation. If a smaller package is the right starting point, we will say so.

Overview

Value destruction in private capital rarely announces itself. It shows up as a gradually lengthening receivables cycle, a covenant headroom that has narrowed for three consecutive quarters, key staff departures, a customer concentration that has quietly increased, or a market shifting beneath a business that is still reporting to plan.

Deal partners know what these signals look like. The constraint is attention. A partner responsible for six companies, raising a fund and sitting on committees cannot review every metric across every portfolio company every month, so the review happens quarterly and the early signals are read late.

The Strategy

AI monitors the full portfolio continuously across the data the fund already receives: management accounts, KPI submissions, board materials, covenant compliance, cash forecasts and the fund's own notes from board meetings. It tracks each metric against its own trend, against plan, and against comparable companies in the portfolio, rather than against a single static threshold.

External signal is layered on top where it is relevant, including news, filings, leadership changes and market developments affecting the sector. When the combined picture indicates deterioration, the responsible partner receives an alert that states what changed, over what period, why it matters, and what similar patterns have preceded elsewhere in the portfolio. Routine variation is filtered out so that alerts retain meaning.

Results Driven

Problems reach the partnership earlier, which is the single largest determinant of how expensive they become. Intervention while a business still has options is a fundamentally different exercise to intervention once the options have closed.

Partners also gain proper coverage of the whole portfolio rather than close coverage of the companies currently demanding attention. Board preparation improves because the trend analysis is already done, and the fund develops an evidence base about which early signals actually predicted trouble.
